“Kubus is a project, but perhaps more than just a project, it is an idea, action, a desire for change that we all feel within ourselves, but probably don’t know how to express meaningfully. Those brave enough to express it are increasingly facing heavy censorship from authorities and corporations in many countries around the world. That’s precisely why the project is designed on the decentralized network of IPFS and Ethereum. This means that all the files necessary for the website’s operation are stored by nodes of multiple systems in the network, making the content resistant to censorship. I then connected the website and applications to an ENS domain and graphically placed it on six series of two posters using QR codes, followed by an action in public space. I affixed the posters to culturally marked areas and transitional zones. For example, the series “State Debt” is placed in the underpass of “Nebotičnik”, which is in the immediate vicinity of the Ministry of Finance and the Slovenian Bank. For each series, I created a “soundscape” as well as an augmented reality (AR) application, both of which are integrated into the aforementioned website. The AR application simulates the display of the first hundred images from a Google search of the specific poster theme, thus capturing a digital footprint of the day when the application was created and censorship was likely absent. Through this action, I aimed to raise people’s awareness of concepts such as repression and censorship and to activate and stimulate critical thinking to some extent through a comprehensive artwork that encompasses graphic design, photography, animation, programming, advertising tactics, theatrical questioning, placement in public space, and action within it.”
In addition to the action in the public space, it was also exhibited at Ponjava I, June 2021, UL ALUO.
